Prince William's cousin says Kate and William will make 'great parents'

Prince William's cousin, Peter Phillips, has opened up about the British royal family's excitement to welcome the royal baby, and has said Prince William and his pregnant wife Kate Middleton will make "great parents".
"First and foremost, everyone is ecstatic for both," said Peter, speaking to royal correspondent Max Foster in an interview on CNN.
"They will make great parents and it’s great to be able to welcome another child into the family, if not from a selfish perspective for my two girls to be able to grow up with a playmate."

 

The Duchess of Cambridge has spent time with Peter's daughters in the past, and was seen enjoying a walk with little Savannah on a previous occasion, accompanied by Kate's dog Lupo.

Kate is expected to give birth sometime over the next few days in mid-July, and the excitement surrounding her unborn child, who will be the third-in-line to the throne, is building.

Members of the press have been camping outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital where Kate will give birth, and Peter acknowledged the amount of attention the royal baby was getting.

"He or she will be under a great deal of scrutiny," he said. "That being said, both of the baby's parents are used to that and I think there is the structure and infrastructure around them all to be able to protect them to a certain extent.

"Sure, the baby's going to be in the limelight, just like William was from a very early age."

Security efforts have doubled outside the Lindo Wing. Policemen were seen checking the area outside the hospital earlier this week, inspecting lampposts and drains.

Peter went on to talk about how he and his sister Olympic silver medallist Zara Phillips, who is pregnant with her first child with husband Mike Tindall, were raised.

"My parents made it very clear to both Zara and I that when we were growing up, we were very privileged," said Peter.

"We actually had to go out and work for a living. It wasn't going to be presented on a plate to us. We had to forge our own careers.

"My sister has been hugely successful in her own quest and for someone like Zara getting up at five in the morning, riding ten horses and then going to a competition, that's hard work.

"People see the end product and they don't understand the amount of work that goes into trying to put these things on."
